Study on Trafficking of Organs in Mozambique

TheStudy on Human Organs and  body parts in the Southern Region of Mozambique”, continues the work that the Church has been doing, especially since 2003 when cases of abduction and trafficking in persons, organs and human body parts were first spoken about. At the time, a lot of ink flowed on the topic because few belie-ved it. Today it is not only undeniable but has become a global phenomenon, constituting a very great challenge for governments and institutions such as the police (in its different branches and specialities), the courts, etc. This work is the result of research promoted by CEMIRDE, in partnership with the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD).

The aim of the study is to gain greater knowledge and understanding about trafficking in organs and body parts, indicating principal factors contributing to the phenomenon, in order to identify the most appropriate strategies to combatitin local communities and institutions providing essential services, in the three provinces of the southern region of Mozambique: Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane.
