Talitha Kum Africa Youth Ambassadors: A Fourth Cohort in Action

The Talitha Kum Africa Youth Ambassadors Programme Fourth Cohort entered its field implementation phase in March, following an intensive 6-month training in French and English that began in September 2025.

The Talitha Kum Africa Youth Ambassadors Programme was designed to place young people at the centre of anti-trafficking prevention, empowering them to educate their peers. This year marks the programme’s most geographically expansive to date, with 58 participants spanning eight countries across Eastern, Southern, Central, and West-Central Africa. In partnership with their respective national Talitha Kum coordination teams, they are now carrying out awareness activities in their communities to shed light on trafficking risks. The successes of these young advocates and their networks have been remarkable.

In Addis Ababa, the Tinsae Ethiopia Youth Ambassadors led a high-impact campaign at Christ the King Cathedral. Engaging directly with the Cardinal and Auxiliary Bishop, they presented the mission of Talitha Kum and the realities of trafficking. The event was broadcast on PAX Catholic TV, reaching an estimated 200,000+ indirect beneficiaries and amplifying the message across the country.

In Uganda, Youth Ambassadors hosted several radio programmes to address the movement of rural youth to Kampala under false promises of job opportunities in the Middle East. Call-in sessions allowed community members to share personal testimonies, and advocacy materials were translated into Acholi to bridge communication gaps. A significant milestone was reached at Ocer Campion Jesuit College (OCJC), where an awareness campaign drew over 1,000 students. Following this, 17 students voluntarily formed an Anti-Trafficking Club that meets weekly under the guidance of Sr. Joyce and the Gulu–St. Bakhita Anti-Human Trafficking Network.

Across the continent, the cohort of young leaders has already organized school campaigns, capacity-building sessions for youth leaders, and awareness initiatives in parishes, demonstrating their energy and commitment to the fight against trafficking. We are incredibly proud of all Talitha Kum networks and their Cohorts of Youth Ambassadors for the work they have been doing, and we are looking forward to their official graduation ceremony this summer!
