New Talitha Kum Study Packet for Systemic Change

On April 23, the Talitha Kum International Coordination Committee launched a new Study Packet: a Kit for Prayer and Action during an online event. Building on the first priority of the 2024 Final Declaration of the General Assembly, this Study Packet focuses on promoting systemic change in response to the growing and evolving vulnerabilities that fuel human trafficking.

In today’s rapidly changing world, marked by inequality, forced migration, and both online and offline forms of violence and exploitation, this resource offers a guide for reflection, prayer, and action. It aims to support individuals and networks in addressing the root causes of human trafficking and in creating concrete pathways for transformation.

The online launch event brought together over 100 participants from the Talitha Kum networks around the world. The keynote speaker, Sr. Jean Quinn, Executive Director of UNANIMA International, shared her invaluable expertise in global advocacy. Her presentation emphasized the importance of survivor-centered strategies, highlighting that “survivors' lived experience reveals where systems fail and where they can be rebuilt.” She also stressed the need for collective action to achieve a transformative impact:

“Systemic change is not a single reform but a sustained commitment to strengthening the social fabric. It requires governments, communities, businesses, and individuals to recognize their interconnected roles.”

Sr. Kayula Lesa, Regional Coordinator for Talitha Kum Africa, and Marilyn Zigmund Luke, Director of Advocacy at Alliance to End Human Trafficking (USA) also shared their experiences and perspectives on large-scale advocacy strategies.

The live participants actively engaged with the speakers, raising awareness about new forms of trafficking they have personally observed – for example, in the context of the wars in Lebanon and Ukraine, as well as cases of digital exploitation through the use of Artificial Intelligence or platforms such as OnlyFans.
