The story of Lakshmi

I am Lakshmi and I am 15 years old. I was living in Wayanad district of India when I was taken by a person from the nearby village for domestic work, but in reality I was trafficked for sexual exploitation. This affected me deeply, physically and mentally. I was behaving abnormally.

Every other week they took me to work in a different place, until after a time some people found me in the village near my home in a deplorable situation. One day the sisters from Talitha Kum visited my house and found me in the same situation: my hands were always on my chest, I could not talk, eat, and I was very sad because my brothers were beating me up.

The next day, the sisters came back and managed to give me a bath, but my hands were always there on my chest. They took me to a psychiatrist and treated me. I took my medication regularly with the help of my neighbors and since then there has been a wonderful change. Now I am better and at home, I can't take my meds regularly because of Covid's restrictions, but I am accompanied by sisters who want the best for me.
