Walking in Dignity App users help Talitha Kum Networks
Six months after launching its Walking in Dignity App, Talitha Kum reports several of its organizations have reached their projected goals.
On January 30, 2024 Talitha Kum launched its new Walking in Dignity App that had been developed in 2023.
The Walking in Dignity App is the innovation of a group of young adults who participated in the development of the App. A group of young people was paired with Talitha Kum and thought of developing an App that would target young people with an invitation to get involved in caring for trafficked persons.
Young people make their contribution
The App invites young people to walk together with their peers. Content regarding how Talitha Kum performs its mission is unlocked as users reach certain milestones. In addition, users donate their STEPS to various Talitha Kum networks’ projects or sponsored organizations. These donated steps are matched by donors who support Talitha Kum’s mission.
App stats
As of the writing of this article, there are 1054 active Walking in Dignity App Users who have donated a total of 90995 tokens [69156 km] from 91 countries leading majority users from Italy and USA.
Rebirth of a Queen located in Kenya was the first of 6 organizations toward whom users could donate their steps to reach the goal of 15,000 tokens (1 token = 1,000 steps). App users have also helped Talitha Kum International and the Brazilian network Um Grito Pela Vida, realize this goal. Other Talitha Kum sponsored projects Rugiada located in Rome, and Talitha Kum networks located in Tanzania and Bangladesh reached their goal.
Rebirth of a Queen was founded by Pauline. Born and raised in Kenya’s Kibera slum and is a survivor of sexual and domestic violence. Pauline was one of 5 survivors invited to participate in Talitha Kum’s General Assembly held in Rome in May, 2024.
The vision of her organization is to change “the narrative around empowerment for survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking.”
Currently, Rebirth of a Queen operates a safehouse with a capacity for 25 people – teenage mothers and their children who are survivors of either human trafficking or sexual/gender-based violence. Talitha Kum Kenya and Talitha Kum International both support Rebirth of a Queen which has become one of the first survivor-led organizations to partner with them.
