Talitha Kum Asia Strengthens Its Mission Through Regional Communication Training

Talitha Kum Asia held a dynamic communication training course in Cha’am, Thailand, from 24–27 November 2025, bringing together 14 participants—religious sisters and Youth Ambassadors from the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Korea, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Timor-Leste.

Led by Sr. Paula Phonprasertruksa, Regional Coordinator for Asia, the program aimed to equip members with essential communication skills to enhance the network’s visibility and deepen public awareness about human trafficking through both onsite initiatives and digital platforms. This training marked the first phase of Talitha Kum Asia’s broader communication program.

The course was jointly facilitated by Tae Pakawat, founder of the Bangkok-based Mana Creative Co. Ltd., and Sr. Bernadette Reis, FSP, who offered a rich blend of theory and hands-on learning. Participants explored a range of communication topics including public speaking, graphic design, photography, audio and video production, social media design tools, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence. All sessions were designed to strengthen their ability to communicate Talitha Kum’s mission more effectively within their national contexts and across the region. For many attendees, the training became an opportunity to overcome digital barriers and grow in confidence.

“Participating in this training has helped me because I am a digital migrant,” shared Sr. Imelda Mella, a Zelatrix of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from Talitha Kum Timor-Leste. “I learned so much about using social media platforms to spread awareness about human trafficking. I hope to invite more young people to join our network through these social media platforms.”

The program emphasized practical application, guiding participants as they created visual content, crafted clear and engaging messages, and developed communication strategies suited to their local realities. By the end of the course, participants expressed renewed motivation to contribute to Talitha Kum’s communication efforts at national and regional levels.

For Riza Manlangit, parish migrant coordinator from Cebu and member of Talitha Kum Philippines, the training was particularly impactful. She engages in raising awareness on human trafficking and the online sexual abuse and exploitation of children across 57 parishes in her diocese.
This workshop was very important to me because the tools I learned will help me communicate more effectively. This is what we need to promote the network’s mission and vision,” she said.

Talitha Kum Asia remains committed to strengthening its collective impact. One of its key priorities for the 2025–2030 period is the formation of a communication team and a strategic program to enhance collaboration and amplify the voices of those working to prevent human trafficking.

This training represents a significant step toward that goal; equipping members with the skills, confidence, and creativity needed to communicate more powerfully on behalf of the Talitha Kum network and the communities they serve.
