SOLWODI is an NGO and not a network as such, however, can be regarded as the only organized network of Religious Women in Germany actively involved in the field of prevention and support of victims of human trafficking.
In 1985, Sr. Lea Ackermann founded SOLWODI in Kenya to help women who want to leave prostitution. SOLWODI Germany was founded in 1987.
SOLWODI stands for SOLidarity with WOmen in DIstress. We support migrant women in Germany who are in need or have suffered from violence, such as human trafficking and sexual exploitation, prostitution, forced marriage and so-called honour crimes, domestic violence, etc. We offer psychosocial care, organize medical or legal support, help in finding housing and jobs, or arrange German language courses and vocational training. The care is always tailored to the specific needs and individual situation of the respective woman and her children.
In addition, SOLWODI Kenia runs projects to provide schooling, job training and income generating activities to women and girls who would be otherwise at risk to be forced into prostitution.
