CONFLICT IN UKRAINE: TALITHA KUM POLAND ACTIVE IN RECEIVING REFUGEES. High risk of human trafficking.

Every conflict is unjustifiable, violent and dehumanizing. War is the origin of many other forms of violence and human rights violations, including human trafficking.  In the early days of the war, as the first refugees arrived in Poland, the sisters took them in, opening their convents to the most vulnerable people.

In addition to this welcome, the nuns of Talitha Ku, "Bakhita" Religious in Poland Networking Against Trafficking, since the first days of March, have been active in listening attentively, and have collected information about possible human trafficking cases on the Ukrainian-Polish border: people sneaking in among the various humanitarian organizations, offering free food and lodging and inviting people to follow them. The sisters have also collected reports of the disappearance of women and children, especially in border regions.

This information is an indicator of the possible action of traffickers, who unfortunately also in this conflict, as in every conflict in history, exploit the vulnerable conditions of people forced to flee. The Bakhita Network has immediately started to collaborate with a group of lawyers, to systematize the information and document the worrying increase of human trafficking at the border between Ukraine and Poland, and then send this material to the Polish Ministry of Justice and other relevant governmental bodies. Talitha Kum joins all those who are appealing the international community for greater activation in combating human trafficking and all forms of human rights violations to better protect those fleeing war.

On March 25, 2022, the Holy Father will solemnly consecrate Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Talitha Kum joins in prayer, imploring the gift of peace for all, for every people wounded by violence.
