Describe briefly how and by whom the Network was started: The network was started by Sr. Annah Nyadombo a Carmelite Sister in Zimbabwe of the Congregation of the Handmaids of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (HOLMC) in 2016. She raised awareness of Talitha Kum Network to different Congregations and started mobilizing and organizing workshops in Zimbabwe through explaining the work of the International Talitha Kum Network and also through presentations she prepared to teach different Sister who were interested to join the Network. She received positive response from both religious male and female and lay people after the dissemination of information on the work of Talitha Kum in the world which was supposed to be reciprocated in Zimbabwe working with victims of trafficking, refugees and migrants. As a result she was also instrumental to the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference to raise awareness to schools, hospitals, Children’s Homes, Parishes and the Refugee Camp in Tongogara on the modern day slavery of trafficking of persons. She prepared posters, prayer cards, flyers and distributed to different guilds and parishes. These helped many people to receive relevant information about Talitha Kum Network. She also advised people to visit the website of Talitha Kum Network website UISG. Sr. Annah was among the First Talitha Kum Trained Leaders in Rome organized by UISG who graduated in February 2019. They were trained in the following areas: Effective Communication, Leadership, Ethics, Theology, Psychology, Sociology, Bible Stories, Safeguarding, Protection, Abuse, Listening Skills, Counseling Skills, Talitha kum Network -memberships and structures, operating procedures and networking, Partnerships, Prevention, Protecting, Policies, Legal procedures, Reporting and handling cases, Human development, Motivation, project management, Budgeting, Evaluation, involvement, Social Media, application of different Charisms in the network, e.t.c)
Talitha Kum Zimbabwe a network of Religious life, Clergy and Lay committed to work towards eliminating trafficking in persons and its causes. Talitha Kum values, promotes, collaborations and partnerships with all organizations, groups and individuals working toward a similar causes. Goals: • To create public awareness about human trafficking and its possible dangers through use of media, dissemination of information to marginalized communities. • To empower the marginalized societies and vulnerable people who are prone to human trafficking. • To influence policy makers to enforce the implementation of national plan of action on human trafficking. • To engage in continuous training and research on the current situation on human trafficking issues.
