General Assembly: Day 2
The phrase ‘Acting locally with a global perspective,’ captures succinctly the essence of the responses from today's opening invitation to reflect upon what it means to be part of the Talitha Kum network.
We heard responses such as ‘To be in solidarity with the millions of people victimised by Human Trafficking,’ and ‘…to be connected with the Talitha Kum members who are spending their lives in service of others,’ through to the sentence ‘We can easily connect with each other across the world and use our SISTER POWER AND INFLUENCE to free the children, women and men who are enslaved.’ Such open and honest responses illustrate how sisters selflessly respond to the Lord's call to action for our fellow sisters and brothers enslaved and abused.
In every instance of Human Trafficking, victims and survivors find themselves in circumstances far beyond what they alone can handle. Not only are they abused and traumatised, they are heartbroken, poor, alone and seemingly without hope and hurting.
Our sisters at the Assembly profess not to have been blessed with Jesus' powers to perform miracles but through today’s exhibitions of their respective continents’ activities, we see the reality of Sisters’ day-to-day living of the Word, weaving a web of hope as they help Human Trafficking victims and survivors, bear the weight of their burdens.
The final word goes to the respondent who shared the following:
‘’Belonging to Talitha Kum means being part of a network to save lives, a network to define who we are and a network to give hope and possibilities.”
Truly, a network weaving a web of love.
