SOLWODI is an NGO and not a network as such, however, can be regarded as the only organized network of Religious Women in Germany actively involved in the field of prevention and support of victims of human trafficking.
Sr. Bonetti met Sr. Lea at the end of the 1980s in Boppard, the headquarter of SOLWODI, to talk with her about SOLWODI und how the organizsation works. They met again in Rome for any times.
1985, Sr. Lea founded SOLWODI in Kenya to help women who want to leave prostitution. SOLWODI Germany was founded in 1987.
SOLWODI stands for SOLidarity with WOmen in DIstress. We support migrant women in Germany who are in need or have suffered from violence, such as human trafficking and sexual exploitation, prostitution, forced marriage and so-called honour crimes, domestic violence, etc.
SOLWODI's 19 german counselling centers and 7 women’s shelters are located in 7 federal states: Bavaria, Berlin, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Wuerttemberg. SOLWODI Deutschland e.V. is the umbrella organization under which there are local SOLWODI organizations in the various federal states. SOLWODI has a vast network of partner organization at local, national and international level.
In addition, SOLWODI Kenia runs projects to provide schooling, job training and income generating activities to women and girls who would be otherwise at risk to be forced into prostitution.
