History of Talitha Kum
The story of TALITHA KUM: International Network of Consecrated Life Against Trafficking
in Persons began as a joint venture of UISG and IOM in the field of the Formation
of Women Re-ligious to Counteract Trafficking in Persons in 2004.
It is the same year that the Congress on Con-secrated Life 2004 entitled "Passion
for Christ and Passion for humanity" was organised. Infact, in the Acts of
the same Congress, it says: «Consecrated life, by its very nature, ought
not to be centred in itself but focussed upon its commitment at the service of
the most vulnerable after the example of Jesus» In the light of this affirmation
and in the face of the rising phenomenon of trafficking in persons, especially
of women and children, the congregations of women religious felt challenged and
undertook a series of initiatives to be focussed and to let the compassion of
Christ flow out to them.
